Boy Scouts (Boy Scouts of America)
The purpose of the BSA program is to develop American citizens who are physically,
mentally, and emotionally fit; have a high degree of self-reliance as evidenced
in such qualities as initiative, courage, and resourcefulness; understand
the principles of the American social, economic and government systems;
are knowledgeable about and take pride in American heritage and understand
our nation’s role in the world; have a keen respect for the basic
rights of all people; and are prepared to participate in and give leadership
to the American society.
The spiritual welfare of each scout is a basic value in Scouting. The Charter
and Bylaws of the BSA state that “…no member can grow into the
best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God.” without
specifying the particular religious tradition, the BSA has established a
policy that “…the home and organization or group with which
the member is connected shall give definite attention to religious life.”
Troop 296, sponsored by St. John Neumann, provides a structure
for promoting “attention to religious life” within a scouting
program for the boys of this parish. |
