Altar
Servers
Want to become an Altar Server?
Boys and girls who have made their First Communion are eligible to become
Altar Servers. Altar Servers are assigned to assist the clergy at Sunday
and Holyday Masses, Weddings, and Funerals.
Responsibilities include:
- Carrying the incense container.
- Lighting the altar candles.
- Extinguishing the altar candles.
- Bearing the cross in the entrance procession.
- Bearing the candles in the entrance procession.
- Assisting with holy water, wine and offertory
gifts during Mass.

Occasionally, Altar Servers will have the opportunity to serve the Bishop
as miter or staff bearer. Serving at the altar is a big responsibility.
Altar Server requirements are to be dependable (show up and be on time when
scheduled), be neatly dressed, and to serve at the altar with a mature,
reverent attitude. |
