Altar
Guild
The duty of the Altar Guild is to prepare the church and the items to be used during the celebration of the Eucharist or any of the other Sacraments of the church. We work closely together with the Pastor in the care of all that is needed for the right worship of God, including the decorations of the church according to the liturgical season. The ladies of the Altar Guild are responsible for the cleaning of the altar, chalices and patens used during each Mass; seeing that the priest's vestments and the Altar Server's albs are clean and the right color for the church season; cleaning, ironing, and repairing the large and small linens used during the Mass; providing the altar bread and wine; and making sure there is always holy water on hand. The Altar Guild is divided into rotating teams that meet every Monday and Friday for altar duty during their assigned month. The work of the Altar Guild is an essential part of the worship at our church. When it is done carefully and competently, it helps us worship in an orderly, beautiful way. Being a member of the Altar Guild is a privileged discipline, a service of love, and an offering of time in these days when we have little time. It is work done joyfully in thanksgiving for all the many things that God has done for us. We make our money by having a turkey dinner, bake sale and selling holy bears throughout the year. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month (except during the summer months) at 1:00 P.M. in the Scott Room of the Family Center. |
