SJN Pastoral Council The Pastoral Council exists for the purpose of serving the people of God: ministering to them through teaching the Word of God, sanctifying persons and heading them towards Eternal Life. The Council is drawn from the parish membership and represents the Mystical Body of Christ in St. John Neumann parish. The Pastoral Council serves as a consultative body for the pastor. Using the Pastoral Council’s input, the Pastor is responsible for providing direction to the parish. The purpose of the Pastoral Council is to be an instrument of common counsel for the determination of goals and policies, and the execution of programs in matters pertaining to the spiritual and temporal welfare of the parish. It provides a means by which all of the people of God in the parish (i.e., priests, deacons, and laity) can have a fuller participation in the parish affairs. It provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and it encourages, coordinates, unifies and leads the parish, under the direction and guidance of the pastor, in making the Gospel known to parishioners.
